Today’s smartphones bring top notch performance to its users.. it has been possible due to all the high-end chipsets integrated on those phones. We have recently seen the Snapdragon 888, Exynos 2100 and many other chipsets in flagship smartphones. Now, there are some other powerful chipsets available which are as good as flagships chipsets. The recent ones that got launched are Snapdragon 870, Dimensity 1200 and 1100. These chipsets provide promising performance, nearly flagship level. Here, we will be comparing chipset: Snapdragon 870 vs Dimensity 1200. Let’s check it out!
Chipset Comparison between Snapdragon 870 5G and Dimensity 1200
|Processor||Dimensity 1200||Snapdragon 870 5G|

Both MediaTek Dimensity 1200 as well as Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 bring the octa-core CPU. However, the cores here are different with different clock speeds. MediaTek’s Dimensity has 4 ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 2.0 GHz. Also, the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 has the same number of Cortex-A55. However, it is clocked at 1.8 GHz only.
Other remaining Cores in Dimensity are Cortex-A78 where 3 of them are clocked at 2.6 GHz and one is clocked at 2.84 GHz. On the other hand, Snapdragon features Cortex-A77 where 3 of them are clocked at 2.42 GHz and one is clocked at 3.2 GHz.
So, being more specific to the chip comparison with cores, Cortex-A78 is more powerful than the A77. A78 brings 20% more improvement in performance over the Cortex-A77. This clears out, Dimensity 1200 is more powerful with the help of the new A78 cores.
Moving on, Dimensity 1200 has Mali-G77 MP9 GPU and Snapdragon 870 5G consists of Adreno 650 GPU. Qualcomm didn’t say anything about the improvements on GPU. So, we can assume the Adreno 650 is the same from the Snapdragon 865+ chip. However, MediaTek does claim that Mali-G77 has got a performance increase by 13% compared to the Dimensity 1000+.
There are no results in the benchmark platforms for the Dimensity 1200 chipset. Please come back later for the benchmark results and to check whose GPU is better between them.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 can support up to 12 GB LPDDR4x RAM. Similarly, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G can support LPDDR5 RAM up to 16 GB. More RAM will significantly boast better performance.
Multimedia: ISP / AI
Snapdragon 870 5G has the Spectra 480 ISP whereas Dimensity 1200 has MediaTek’s Imagiq Camera HDR-ISP. They both are capable of supporting one 200 MP camera sensor. The 870 is capable of capturing 8K video. But 1200 can capture 4K HDR videos only. However, MediaTek claims that the recording boasts 40% greater dynamic range. On the other hand, the night shots are 20% faster, all compared with Dimensity 1000+ chipset.
Snapdragon 870 5G vs Dimensity 1200: Conclusion
The Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 is an upgraded version of last year’s Snapdragon 865+. Upgraded, in a sense of a powerful CPU. But the MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 has obviously more powerful CPU cores than SD 870 5G. In the case of GPU, Snapdragon doesn’t have any changes. However, MediaTek claims that the GPU performance has been increased than the Dimesnity 1000+.
We can shortly conclude that the MediaTek might be better than the Snapdragon 870 5G. But, it’s better we wait for benchmark test results to know the actual show stealer.
