Undoubtedly, Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is an impressive processor for Android and has been around for sometimes. We have seen lot of smartphones with this chipset starting with Galaxy S20 series. On, Wednesday, 8th of July, Qualcomm unveiled the superior 865+ chipset with minor upgrade over the Snapdragon 865 for the second half of the year. It is the first chipset from Qualcomm to surpass the 3 GHz CPU clock speed.
The Snapdragon 865+ comes with the prime core clocked at 3.1GHz breaking the barrier of 3GHz. Last year’s Snapdragon 855+ had a prime core of 2.84GHz. Similarly, other cores in SD 865+ are four efficiency cores with 1.8GHz clock speed and three big cores running at 2.4GHz clock speed. Overall, compared to the SD 865, the only difference is the clock speed of the prime core which is increased by 10%.
Meanwhile, the paired Adreno 650 GPU is now capable of 10% faster graphics rendering compared to Snapdragon’s 865 GPU. But, actual clock speed hasn’t been disclosed yet. The graphics boost will keep things smooth.
The Snapdragon 865+ spots upgraded wireless connectivity “FastConnect 6900” (upgraded from 6800). This update enables support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 with apt X Adaptive. The Wi-Fi 6E works with 6GHz band to deliver speed of up to 3.2Gbps and latency under 3ms. Similarly, it uses X55 modem to deliver global 5G connectivity supporting both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands.
All the other major features of Snapdragon 865 is still here. That means 144Hz refresh rates, Quick Charge 4 Plus, support for 200MP stills and 8K video recording.
