Samsung Exynos 1080 Overview
As aforementioned, the new processor is the first of its kind from Samsung built on the 5nm EUV FinFET technology. The octa-core processor uses a new CPU architecture with triple cluster design (1+3+4). Here, it comes with one 2.8Ghz Cortex-A78 large core for peak performance. Likewise, there are three 2.6GHz Cortex-A78 cores for balanced processing. Finally, the four 2.0Ghz Cortex A55 are efficiency cores. According to Samsung, its single core performance has increased by 50% while the multi-core performance gains a 2x boast. At the same time, it supports the latest LPDDR4x and LPDDR5 memory standards as well as UFS 3.1 storage.
Meanwhile, the graphic is handled by Mali -G78 MP10 GPU. The overall GPU performance has increased by 2.3 times and delivers performance nearly matching Exynos 990 flagship processor. Further, the exclusive development of Amigo power distribution program monitors and optimizes power consumption for apps and games (10% increase in power efficiency).
Exynos 1080 comes with an integrated modem like Exynos 980. The modem supports sub-6GHz frequency band and millimeter-Wave frequency band. Further, phones with Exynos 1080 chipset will support up to 5.1Gbps download speed. Furthermore, it supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 technology which will improve the connectivity.
Display and Camera
The phone with this processor can be installed with WQHD+ display up to 90Hz refresh rate. Similarly, the refresh rate can go as high as 144Hz when the resolution is limited to Full HD+.
On the other hand, the processor can handle up to 200MP single camera or dual 32MP + 32MP units. It supports up to 6 cameras. Moreover, the chip supports traditional 10-bit color shooting and the ability to directly edit HDR10+ videos. Moving on to videos, it can support up to [email protected] and for photos there are several AI modes.
Other noteworthy features include a NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and DSP (Digital signal Processor) that reach up to 5.7 TOPS of performance.
Samsung Exynos 1080 Availability
Samsung confirmed that Exynos 1080 will be first seen with Vivo smartphones. Back in 2019, Vivo adopted the Exynos 980 first in Vivo X30 series and now the chip might come out with Vivo X60 series. Presumably, the phone with the chipset will be seen in the first quarter of 2021.
