Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Overview
Design
The Galaxy Buds Pro are smaller than the Galaxy Buds Plus and they’ve ditched the bean like styling that we have seen in the Buds Live. These have a typical canal type earbuds design with a longer less rounded cap cushion. Â
Speaking of the case, it has the same pebble shaped design that we’ve seen before. In the front of the charging case is a LED light which indicates the battery level in yellow green and red color. Around the back is a USB Type-C used to charge the case. Similarly, it can be charged wirelessly.
The earbuds are available in three colors: Phantom Black, Phantom Silver and Phantom Violet. And the color of the buds corresponds with the case colors.
Noise Cancellation
As mentioned earlier, the earbuds come with an intelligent ANC support. It is the second pair of earbuds to feature ANC from Samsung after Buds Live. The company is promising better noise cancellation on these sets of earbuds.
These earpieces can automatically adjust the ANC levels based on the environment. According to Samsung, the Buds Pro offers up to 99% noise reduction. Similarly, you manually adjust the degree of cancelation based on your preference via the smartphone companion app.
Similarly, the intelligent ANC detects our voice and vibration to detect we are in a conversation and let the external sound through. Once it detects we are in conversation, it automatically turn the music down and bring up the volume once it detects we are done. It’s also capable of amplifying nearby sounds by over 20dB, allowing users to hear nearby sounds clearly.
Audio and Call Quality
The Buds Pro packs a two-way speaker in each bud. A 6.5mm tweeter is responsible for high frequencies and high end 11mm woofer for low frequencies. Similarly, the earbuds boast a new feature called Spatial Audio which uses Dolby Head Tracking technology. It recreates multi-directional surround sound and delivers a more immersive listening experience. However, the multi-dimensional 360 Audio can only be experienced with Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Moreover, the earbuds deliver clear, bas-rich audio. It supports SBC, AAC and Samsung’s Scalable format.
Speaking of call quality, each earbud includes three microphones, including a high SNR mic and two outer mics. An accelerometer is also present in each earpiece which filters the unwanted sounds during calls. Likewise, for minimal impact in call quality due different weather conditions, it is more closed fit mesh and chamber.
Connectivity
For connectivity, the Buds Pro uses Bluetooth 5. It is specially optimized for use with Samsung devices. The Auto Switch feature lets you seamlessly switch between the Galaxy devices. For example: if you are listening to a music in Tab S7 Plus and you get a call on your S21 Ultra, the Buds Pro switches the connection to your phone and once done resumes the music in the tablet.
Battery and miscellaneous
The Galaxy Buds Pro is backed by 61mAh batteries in each earbud. They are rated up to 5 hours of playback with ANC turned on. Further, the case make use of 472mAh battery providing an additional 13 hours of playback. Meanwhile, if you don’t use ANC the number bumps to 8 hours whereas additional 20hours is provided by the reserve power of the case.
The case can be charged wirelessly as it supports Qi-wireless charging. But if you prefer traditional charging method, then use USB-C port on the front.
Additionally, the TWS comes with IPX7 dust and water resistance rating, the highest rating so far for Samsung earphones. That means the buds can be used in heavy rain and intensely sweaty workouts.
