Xiaomi announced the highly anticipated Redmi Note 9 series composed of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, Note 9 5G, and Note 9 4G in China. These devices are not to be confused with the Redmi Note 9 series that was launched globally earlier in the year and is arguably the most successful devices of the company. Similarly, the company also surprised us with a Redmi watch. In this article I’ll go through the specs, features, expected price of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G with its availability in Nepal.
Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G Overview
Display and Design
Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is the highest-end model in this new series and features a 6.67” IPS LCD panel. This 120Hz panel has an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and 240Hz touch sampling rate. It is an adaptive display that offers 6 different refresh rates ranging from 30Hz to whooping 120Hz. Sitting under the shield of Gorilla Glass 5 Is a centered punch hole display with TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification. Not only that, the brightness of the display can go as low as 1nit making it a lot pleasant for eyes at night.
Moving on, the Note 9 Pro 5G is quite reminiscent of Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Ultra from the rear, as it has a similar circular camera module and similar color scheme. Like the front panel the rear is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. Further, it carries IP53 splash and dust resistance along with anti-splash coating.
The major highlight of this handset is its camera. It flaunts a quad camera setup where the main module is built around the 1/1.52” ISOCELL HM2 Samsung’s third generation 108MP sensor. Meanwhile, the sensor is smaller than the HM1 used in S20 Ultra (that’s 1/1.33” sensor) but offers Nona binning technology which combines the details of 9 images at once, giving off a sharp, vibrant, and well-lit 12MP image even in low-light situations. Whereas the first Xiaomi mode with 108MP camera did 4-in1 binning. Here, the effective pixel size goes up to 2.1µm combined with Dual Native Iso and a new night mode.
With hardware Remosaic technology, the handset can quickly produce 108MP ultra-clear photos, and the camera speed is 3.8 times faster than Xiaomi CC9 Pro, which greatly improves the filming rate of 100-megapixel photos. It also comes with Super night Scene 2.0 which makes night time shots awesome.
Other sensors in the quad camera array include an 8MP ultrawide shooter, a 2MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth unit. The camera system would have felt complete if it had telephoto lens instead of useless 2MP sensors. Nevertheless, the high-resolution main sensor can do lossless digital zoom up to 3x. Similarly, on the front resides a 16MP selfie camera.
Performance and Memory
Another major highlight of Note 9 Pro 5G is its processor. The handset is driven by a powerful Snapdragon 750G chipset. This 8nm LPU adopts the Kryo 570 architecture of the same generation as the Snapdragon 865. Here, two large cores have a frequency of up to 2.2GHz, and six high-efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8GHz. Graphics is handled by Qualcomm’s in-house Adreno 619 GPU and 5G is enabled via X52 modem.
Similarly, the X52 modem supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz frequencies, SA and NSA networks, TDD, FDD, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), global roaming, and global multi-SIM allowing wider consumer reach. Meanwhile, the company has included a 360-degree antenna (no less than 11) for optimum signal reception of 5G signal, Wi-fi, and Bluetooth.
In terms of memory, it comes configured with 6/8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GBof faster UFS 2.2 storage. Xiaomi says the storage is twice as fast as UFS 2.1 used in the previous generation.
Further, there’s a three-dimensional liquid cooling system to keep the device cool during intense gaming sessions. The second-generation ultra-thin heat pipe and multi-layer graphite at the front and rear ensure efficient two-way heat conduction on the XY axis of the handset. Xiaomi claims it can reduce the CPU core temperature by up to 5°C. Furthermore, it includes a Z-axis linear vibration motor as well, for better haptic feedback on gaming or typing sessions.
Battery and Miscellaneous
The Note 9 Pro 5G is backed by a 4,820mAh battery. It supports 33W fast charging via a USB Type-C connection. According to the company, the handset can be charged from 0 to 100% in just 58 minutes.
Besides 5G connectivity, it includes NFC and IR blaster. It also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and dual stereo speaker setup. For biometric authentication, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
