Xiaomi becomes Nepal’s no. 1 smartphone brand of first quarter, 2020 defeating Samsung. Xiaomi tops with a market share of 30.9% in 2020 i.e four out of 10 phones sold in Nepal is from Xiaomi. Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 9 in Nepal a couple of months ago. Before that, Redmi Note 9 Pro was launched in Nepal. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 is the first phone to run on Helio G85 chipset.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 was launched in Nepal with only single variant and that was 4/128 GB. Now, Xiaomi Nepal launched new variants as from the Seven Secret event. The new variants are 4/64 GB and 6/128 GB which gets a new base variant and a top-tier. So, let’s jump into the feature, specifications that the smartphone has to offer. The Redmi Note 9 is built around 6.53” IPS display with Full HD+ resolution. The panel has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a punch-hole cutout in the top left corner that host 13MP selfie camera. Also, the panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Similarly, Redmi Note 9 also has a glass design like it’s predecessor. Further, there is a quad camera setup, fingerprint sensor and Redmi branding at the back.
The quad camera setup at the back consists of 48MP Samsung GM1 primary sensor. It is accompanied by 8MP ultra wide lens, a 2MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. As mentioned on the front there is 13Mp selfie shooter.
Furthermore, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 Octa Core chipset built on 7nm process. Out of eight cores, there is 2 powerful A75 cores and 6 energy efficient Cortex A55 cores. Mali-G52 MC2 handles the graphics rendering. It was available in one configuration, i.e. 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Now, it is available in 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage as base variant. And, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage as top-tier variant.
Additionally, the phone ships with MIUI 11 based on Android 10 out of the box.
The smartphone is fueled by 5020mAh battery supporting 18W quick charging. Like other Redmi phones it is splash resistance and has IR blaster. On the connectivity side, there is Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, NFC, Infrared, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G. Not to miss, the phone supports face unlock.
Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 9 4/128 GB variant is available in Nepal for Rs. 22,999. The newer variants 4/64 GB is priced at Rs. 20,999 and 6/128 GB is priced at Rs. 24,999. These new variants are announced as Surprise No. 4 from Seven Secret event. The new variants is available in Mi Official stores, and will be soon sale will start. Users will be able to choose between Forest Green, Midnight Grey and Polar White.

There’s no doubt that the phone will provide good performance. However, the Realme 6 and Galaxy M20s offers good competition. Moreover, when Realme 6 lands in Nepal, it comes with a 90Hz refresh rate and powerful Helio G90T chipset and 64MP camera. Thus, secures its position as a better option than Redmi Note 9.
