Qualcomm Technologies’ is a well-known and a leading company that provides Snapdragon Mobile Platform, services and other semi-conductor. Now, Qualcomm has announced its first 5G Snapdragon mobile chipset in the 6th Series- the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 690 5G. The new chipset is the successor to the Snapdragon 675 supporting sub-6GHz version of 5G. Snapdragon 690 is designed to make 5G user experiences broadly available around the globe.
Snapdragon 690 5G Chipset
The new Snapdragon 690 is built on 8nm process. It features eight Kryo 560 CPU cores and an Adreno 619L GPU. In addition, it promises variety of improvements over the predecessors. According to Qualcomm, the chipset will offer 20% better CPU performance and 60% GPU rendering in comparison with Snapdragon 675.
Snapdragon 690 is paired with X51 modem to serve 5G. It offers download speed up to 2.5GB/s and upload speeds up to 660Mbps. And it will support SA, NSA and global 5G bands if they are sub-6GHz. But, Qualcomm didn’t include faster mmWave support for the chipset. Thus, mmWave is limited to sub-premium (7th Series) and premium (8th Series) 5G chipset only.
In addition to 5G, some high-end features are also available to the chipset. They have included HDR video recording at 4K @30fps along with 192 MP camera support. Similar, with the new enhancement in the video the chipset can smoothen the experience of watching high quality video in lower bandwidth situation.
Likewise, the chipset supports 120Hz display at up to Full HD+ resolution for faster refresh rate along with Quick charge 4+. The chipset extends it boundary more by enabling support for Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6200. And, FastConnect 6200 brings Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and 2×2 MU-MIMO configurations
Apart from all these, Snapdragon 690 come with 5th Gen AI Engine called ARCSOFT. It enables smart camera and video, voice translation, advanced AI based imaging, and AI enhanced gaming experiences. And, ARCSOFT also smoothen the transitions when zooming between ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto cameras.
The new chipset will be seen in more affordable 5G Android devices that will be launching in Q2 of this year. HMD, LG, Motorola, Sharp, TCL and Wingtech are the companies that will offer smartphone with the Snapdragon 690 5G.
