OnePlus 9R Overview
Display and Design
The OnePlus 9R flaunts a 6.55-inch FHD+ flexible AMOLED panel with a punch hole on the top left corner. The display supports 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate (when using up to 5 fingers at the same time). However, it is not an adaptive refresh rate like in 9 Pro. Moreover, the device has a minimal bezel with 20:9 aspect ratio. Here, the display supports DCI-P3, sRGB gamuts, and has 8,192 levels of brightness. On top of the panel is a Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the display against the dust, scratches and fall.
The phone measures 161×74.1×8.4 mm and weighs 189 grams. The device offers the same camera layout as the other device in the series but not the same optics. The device features a polycarbonate back with a matte finish instead of Gorilla Glass 5. Likewise, It also doesn’t come with an IP rating for dust and water resistance. It comes in two colorways- Carbon Black and Lake Blue.
Performance and Memory
Unlike the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset powers the handset. It is a minor upgrade over last year’s flagship Soc (Snapdragon 865) with Kryo 585 prime core clocked at 3.2Ghz, three Kryo 585 performance cores clocked at 2.4Ghz, and four Kryo 385 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It also features the Adreno 650 for handling graphics and the Snapdragon X55 modem for 5G connectivity. We can see this chipset into action in the recently launched POCO F3 also.
As the device is focused more on gaming, it comes with up to 14 temperature sensors to detect heat. Similarly, to minimize it, OnePlus has packed the phone with an enhanced Vapor cooling system, keeping the performance at its peak. Further, to elevate the gaming experience, the OnePlus 9R features new Pro Gaming Mode, Immersive Haptic feedback (linear motors) and dual stereo speakers (Dolby Atmos). Also you can attach two additional triggers to experience comfortable gaming experience.
The phone arrives with up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. Hence, the device is likely to offer great performance even in demanding games.
Software front is covered by OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11.
For optics, the OnePlus 9R features a quad-camera setup on the back. It is headlined by a 48MP f/1.75 Sony IMX586 primary camera with OIS. Other lenses in the setup is a 16MP Sony IMX481 wide-angle camera with a 123° FoV, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome camera. Over on the front, it features the same 16MP Sony IMX471 selfie shooter embedded in the hole-punch cutout.
The camera packs many features like Cyberpunk style filter, CINE Aspect Ratio Video Recording, UltraShot HDR, Nightscape, Macro, Portrait, Video Portrait, Pro Mode, Panorama, AI Scene Detection, Smart Pet Capture, RAW Image, Filter, Video Focus Tracking, Super Stable, Video Nightscape.
Battery and Miscellaneous
The device gets its juice from the 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W wired fast charging (included in the box) over its USB-C port. Other features include a dual Nano-SIM, in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and Galileo.
