As entry-level iPad already underwent a redesign in 2019, the new iPad came with the same design. There’s nothing new in terms of looks. The Wi-Fi only version weighs around 490gm while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model is 5gm heavier.
Performance and Memory
Underneath the hood, the tablet runs on the Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset. It is not the latest chipset for the company but is a solid replacement from the previous generation iPads’ A10 Fusion chipset. The chipset offers up to 40% faster performance than its predecessor. this chipset not only brings the faster performance but also brings the “Neural Engine” capabilities to the entry-level tablet. With the neural engine the device can run machine learning algorithm and AR apps. Further, the graphics performance is also boosted twice.
Meanwhile, 8th gen iPad 10.2 comes in two different storage configurations namely 32GB and 128GB while the memory remains same for both options. Both the variant offers 3GB of memory. According to the Apple, it is twice as fs as the top-selling Windows laptops, up to three times faster than top -selling Android tablets, and up to 6 times faster than the top-selling Chromebook.
iPad 10.2(2020) makes use of the latest iPadOS 14. It brings a bunch of new features to the tablet like a streamlined toolbar, universal search features, redesigned widgets, new sidebars, and a new compact design for FaceTime and calls. Likewise, it allows the users to feed the hand-written input with Apple Pencil. Further, it also differentiates handwriting and different shapes swing machine learning.
Moving on, there’s nothing impressive in terms of camera. It has same set of cameras found in previous generation. The rear camera has a resolution of 8MP with f/2.4 aperture. It is capable of recording 1080p footage at 30fps and slo-mo videos at 120fps along with video stabilization. On the front, you’ll get a 1.2MP shooter with an f/2.4 aperture. It can record 720p videos at 30fps.
Battery and Miscellaneous
The tablet comes with 32.4 Watt-hour battery and supports 12W charging. The battery can last up to 10 hours on web surfing (on Wi-Fi) or up to 9 hours on a cellular data network. Sadly, it still sticks with the Lightening port instead of the USB Type -C port. But fortunately, it comes with good old TouchID.
