Apple has unveiled new intriguing pairs of TWS earbuds: Beats Studio Buds. Yes, the latest pair of TWS comes under the Beats brand originally founded by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovino later acquired by Apple. These earbuds are very different from the 2019 Beats Powerbeats Pro in terms of design and features. They are also significantly cheaper and bring active noise cancellation along with better support for Android devices. Now, let’s dive into what else the new Beats Studio Buds has to offer.
Beats Studio Buds Overview
The Beats Studio Buds comes in completely new design neither they follow the stem design of Apple’s Airpods nor the hook like design of Powerbeats Pro. They pack a stem-less design with a compact form factor. The tip is covered in a silicone eartip for better noise sealing. Additionally, two pairs of differently sized eartips are available with the package. Similarly, on the side is a Beats logo “b” which is also a button that provides different control options.
Further the case comes in an egg shaped with a single USB port on the bottom and a status LED on the front. Like the earbuds the case also features a compact form factor. The case and earbuds come in a matching color Black, Red or White.
Furthermore, each earbud weighs 5 grams and are IPX4 rated for sweat and water resistance.
Audio and Noise Cancellation
The Studio Buds uses a proprietary 8.2nm layered driver with a dual-chamber acoustic design for clear sound. It also harnesses an effective Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) performance. According to the brand, the earbuds execute “outstanding stereo separation and low harmonic distortion across the frequency curve so you hear every note.”
For those who use the earbuds with the Apple Music will automatically get to hear some tracks in Apple’s Spatial Audio. It is created with Dolby Atmos offering more immersive sound.
Moreover, along with the ANC, there’s also a transparency mode that allows you to hear the surrounding sounds. The buds achieve this with the help of external facing microphones which pick up the sounds of your surroundings.
Connectivity and Controls
The latest earbuds use Bluetooth 5.2 for connection and are compatible with both iOS and Android. Surprisingly they are the first of its kind to have one-touch pairing for both devices. Similarly, it also supports both Find My in iOS and Find My Device on Android in case you lose them.
Unfortunately, the earbuds are not using an apple chip thus you don’t get features such as automatic pairing across Apple devices on iCloud Account, audio sharing and the ability to automatically switch between the devices from iPhone to iPad or Mac. However, it is exciting to see Apple Voice assistant triggered by “Hey Siri” and control center without having to install any application on Apple devices. Meanwhile you’ll have to install Beats app to enable voice assistant or device music controls on Android phones
Moving on the earbuds can be controlled by using the control center and the “b “button. You’ll be able to switch between ANC and transparency modes, control playbacks and answer/reject calls.
Battery and Miscellaneous
The Studio Buds offers 8 hours of battery life on a single charge. It gets reduced to hours when the ANC is turned on. Likewise, the charging case provides two additional full charges resulting in a total battery life of 24 hours, 15 hours when ANC enabled. The earbuds also support fast charging, a 5 minutes of charging is claimed to offer 1 hours of playback.
